Garbage / Recycling Schedule


The District of Muskoka is responsible for curbside collection of acceptable material, the operations at Depots, the Baxter (South Bay Road) and Tower Road Transfer Stations, Hazardous Waste Event Days and Large Item Disposal Event Days. Due to the expiry of the current Curbside Collection contract, the 2017 - 2018 Waste Management Guide is on hold until further details are released. Residents are encouraged to refer to their current Waste Management Guide for program related information (ie. what goes in the blue box, etc.) until further notice. Acceptable material for large item collection:

·         Appliances – stoves, freezers, fridges, etc. (includes freon appliances)
·         Electronics – (need to keep these isolated, usually put into a District pickup truck and kept separated)
·         Household Goods – (area rugs, kids toys, etc.)
·         Furniture (sofas, chairs, tables, etc.)
·         Scrap Metal – barbeques, etc. (max of 3 meters long to meet space/bin limitations)
·         Tires (max of 6 per person, no rims)

x Unacceptable material that will be refused:

·         Construction, renovation and demolition waste (wood, flooring, windows, shingles, etc.)
·         Dock cribbing, tire floats, etc.
·         Bagged household garbage
·         Hazardous Waste including propane cylinders
·         Boats
